I figured it was time for a summer update.

As of today we have only

Anyone who would have cared has probably realized by now that last Monday's rerun was preempted by a special Michael Jackson 'American Idol'.  Theepisode that would have aired.... Love Always.  Oh Fox.  You really are that stupid.

This Monday, the 6th, will be A Perfect Score.  Check your local listings.

I've been catching up on Medical Investigation and had a WTH moment in 'Coming Home', okay maybe more of a me*is*dork moment because when Stephen flips his phone open at the beginning of the episode it totally makes the Star Trek communicator noise from the original series! 

It's so subtle I almost missed it but, of course my Trekkie antenna are always up.  Just made me chuckle so I thought I would share the knowledge. ^_^

So I was watching the Fox re-run of the Pilot and noticed a few things missing.

They cut the car parking scene!!!!!!!!!!!
and Loker telling Torres he wants to sleep with her.
and the beginning of Gillian's questions to the congressman.
and Torres walking into the club.
and a few other little things that didn't really matter like moments when no one was talking.

Why???!?!?!?!?!? 


Also, my mom watched the Pilot with me and all she had seen before was part of Better Half.  After watching all of the Pilot she turned to me and was like, "Now wait, I'm confused.  I thought the lady[Gillian] was married to him.[Cal]"

I really wanted to respond with, "Mom, you rock."  However, I thought it would be easier just to explain that the guy who came to get her for dinner was her husband.

Happy Wednesday!  No picspam this week, maybe next week, but I did have some fanfiction inspiration.  I myself am not good at finishing fanfiction projects....like ever.  So I thought I would share my ideas with those who might want them.

I'll gladly beta read for you! ^_^

-Painting Cal’s office – after The Best Policy Cal’s office gets painted blue, his wall of pictures changes and a piece of art work on the back wall is flipped upside down.  After reading a line in another fanfiction story where Gillian said something about Cal not having the time to paint I started getting lots of mental pictures of Cal and Gillian coming in on the weekend with the office empty to paint it.

 

-Taking a walk- in Undercover Cal and Gillian are out walking and talking about the case in an area that appears to be within walking distance of their office building, see also Moral Waiver, it struck me that in this case they weren’t out to get food, they were just walking.  I found it cute and thought some of you may too.

 

-“Take him to the zoo if you like”- in Better Half when Gillian, Cal and Zoe are walking and talking about the case, Gillian says she’ll evaluate the boy and the remark Zoe makes to that made me think there was a back story.  Did Gillian take Emily to the zoo when she was younger?
“Feel free to talk to the boy, take him to the zoo if you like.”
 

-Rain check?- Throughout the first season we saw examples of Cal and Gillian sharing a meal.  At the end of The Best Policy when Gillian learns her husband will be working late she asks Cal if he wants to grab some dinner, he says he’d love to but he’s got to take care of something and asks for a rain check.  Think Gillian ever collected on that?  Maybe that’s when his office got painted?

Pilot: Part 1

Before I go on a taco bell run (the food of champions) I thought I would share what I learned today.

The designer of the front page of your local newspaper totally deserves your respect. 

I've been working on our school's newspaper all year and have worked my way up from not working on a page by myself, to getting the back page, to getting the back page as well as another page (2, or 6 usually) and now with only two issues left for the year the editors decided they'd let me have a go at the front page.

Never have I been more freaked out/stressed out about something that I was doing in class.

In the end I think it turned out great and it does look different from what our normal front page designer does which was sort of the point.

Now just to get rid of the headache those three hours gave me.

I had a very relaxing weekend which included two, count 'em, two pajama days.  Got caught up on Legend of the Seeker (get together already you two!), made some Lie to Me graphics (which I will post later, I'm going to wait and see if the muse grants me anymore inspiration) and changed my layout.  Still from thefulcrum even though I really hadn't had my other one for very long I felt like I finally had a fandom I could proudly display and wanted a layout that could accommodate that.

I'm also the latest to join the dreamwidth bandwagon.(thanks spud66cat!)  Over there I 'm going by holdmyheart.  Everything has been archived over there but I still need to fix my profile code.

I would still like to finish a couple more things before I have to return to the drudge of school but I might spread things out in case I get really bored this summer.

 

So I'm a dork and in a moment of shear boredom sitting in a physics lecture I wrote down every sign of lying from Lie to Me that I could think of off the top of my head.  When I started typing everything up I also found some youtube examples most of which are exactly what were used on the show.  I sort of wrote this for my facebook friends who don't watch Lie to Me and might find it interesting.

Signs of Lying

• ·         More eye contact; when remembering a real memory eye contact is broken to recall exact facts, if telling a lie than there is no need to recall a real memory and eye contact is maintained; can also be a challenge to the listener to believe the lie. (Pilot)

 

• ·         Manipulators; touching jewelry/ear (Life is Priceless, Do No Harm), rubbing neck (Moral Waiver), etc.

 

 

• ·         Illustrators; people who illustrate, using their hands while talking.  If they stop using illustrators while recalling something, it’s probably a lie. (Life is Priceless)

 

• ·         Gestural retreat; after telling a lie that the individual feels like they need to protect themselves from, they take a literal step back and cross their arms in a defensive stance. (Moral Waiver)

• ·         Qualifying statements; prefacing what’s being said with something like “I’m only going to say this once…” If it was the truth you wouldn’t have to preface your statement.  Deflecting attention from yourself and the question can also mean the answer could be a lie.  (The Best Policy)

• ·         Gestural Slips; slightly nodding yes before saying no, shrugging one shoulder is a sign that you have no confidence in what you just said, shrugging your mouth is the same. (Pilot, Moral Waiver, Love Always, Life is Priceless)

 

• ·         Rigid repetition; Question: Have you ever been to her house.  Answer: No I have never been to her house.  This sort of language is typical of a lie. (Pilot)

-Something that’s just fun to do is if you’re asking someone to recall a course of events; a specific evening or the like.  After listening to their “recollection” ask them to tell it to you backwards.  Start at the end of the night and work back from there.  Liars rehearse their story from start to finish; they don’t think to memorize it backwards.
